In French Polynesia, the Ciguatera Epidemiological Surveillance Network is co-directed by the Laboratory of Marine Biotoxins of the Louis Malardé Institute and the Health Monitoring Office of French Polynesia since 2007.

The network is based on the participation of Health Professionals, Fishermen and the General Population to the DECLARATION OF CIGUATERA POISONINGS.

Ciguatera is not on the list of notifiable diseases in French Polynesia. Reporting is therefore entirely on a voluntary basis.
